Under Armour is an athletic apparel brand founded in the United Sates by Kevin Plank, a former football player for the University of Maryland. Established in 1996, the brand started with humble beginnings with Kevin starting the business in his grandmother's basement in Washington D.C.

Dissatisfied with having to constantly change out of sweaty t-shirts after each practice, he set out to find a solution and after conducting extensive research on the science and benefits of synthetic materials, the first Under Armour Heat Gear T-shirt was born. Named ###0037, the shirt was reinforced with moisture-wicking microfibres that help keep athletes cool, dry and light even as they performed in the most sweltering conditions.

1997 saw the introduction of Cold Gear, fabric meant to sustain athletes during the colder months and then the AllSeasonGear, a line designed to withstand the two extremes and the time in between. By the end of 1998, Under Armour set up its headquarters and warehouse in Baltimore and today they operate on a global scale with office locations in Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Germany, China, Indonesia, Japan and Australia.
